Sweet and Salty Stovetop Popcorn

At very long last (at least in my mind), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows opens tonight! I’ve been waiting forever for this day and it’s finally here.

Distracted all week with anticipation, I filled the big black void by avoiding work, making my own popcorn and watching the last couple Harry Potter’s on DVD. My single consolation? The popcorn is a whole lot tastier at home.

It’s 4 a.m. Can I get in the ticket line now? No? How about now? Do you think I'll get arrested if I break into the theater and play my own movie?

This is agonizing. How am I going to get through the day like this? Breakfast popcorn anyone?

Kettle st
yle popcorn pops right on your stove.

3 tablespoons extra light olive oil or vegetable oil
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
3 tablespoons vanilla flavoring syrup
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 teaspoon salt

Warm oil over medium high heat in a heavy 4 quart pot with a handle for one minute. Stir in popcorn kernels and give the pan a shake to spread them out. Loosely cover the pot with a lid so some of the heat can escape.

When the first pops begin secure the lid and move the pot back and forth gently until the popping slows. Turn off the heat and move the popcorn to a bowl.

Place the vanilla syrup, butter, and salt in a small saucepan and bring to a boil over medium high heat. Boil for two minutes stirring constantly. Drizzle mixture over popcorn and toss to combine.

Total time 10 minutes.

We are currently obsessed with popcorn at our house. Even though we have a popcorn maker, we love to make it on the stove. This recipe sounds SO good... although, we may need to adjust the serving size: not sure I'd share well enough to serve 3! ha.

Why do we not live closer so we could storm the box office together?! I am amazed and impressed by these tasty recipes you keep coming up with and plan to spend two weeks after trial making as many as possible. Happy weekend lady!

YUM! I love homemade popcorn and yours looks spectacular. Wish I could get away with taking it to the theater :)

PS - I'm glad I'm not the only one who's excited about Harry Potter! We have plans with some friends this weekend to see it Saturday night!

Where do you get vanilla flavoring syrup? Could you use corn syrup or sugar instead?

Hi love...we have so many friends who went to see the midnight showing. We are terribly out of touch, and we haven't seen the last two! I love taking popcorn to the movie theater though. So much better (and cheaper!) Thank you for sharing, dear. I hope you have a beautiful Sunday!

We usually eat popcorn during weekends' evenings when we decided to flop on our couch and go through 2 to 3 movies. This recipe sounds so good.
