Ingredients
1 ½ cups granulated sugar
1 ½ cups water
Small pinch of salt
1 ½ cups fresh squeezed lime juice
1/3 cup maraschino cherries, not the juice
2 TBS grenadine
3 to 5 cups cold water (Depending on how strong you like your limeade)
Maraschino cherries & lime slices for garnish

In a sauce pan bring sugar, 1 ½ cups of water, and a pinch of salt to a boil. Boil until the sugar is melted and the liquid is clear; about 3 to 5 minutes. Set aside and cool slightly.

Place all the ingredients together in a half gallon pitcher and stir to combine. Chill and serve with garnishes.

Don’t forget to read the very small fine print! Radioactive Cherry Limeade photograph was taken by a goofy photographer playing with light, shadows, and Photoshop. Your batch may end up looking like normal cherry limeade, unless have a little radioactive iodine on hand to mix in.

Is the recipe supposed to call for 1/3 cup maraschino cherries, or cherry juice?

Lol thanks Mike, and today for you only, shipping and handeling to the UK doesn't cost a bit more.

Just the cherries. They dot the bottom of the pitcher.

Mmm the drink looks lovely and refreshing. Funny post and shocking S&H.

Your "About Me" mentions that your friends, family even dog are your personal guinea pigs for recipe testing. My friends and family [sans a dog, and my cats, well they don't show interest] are my personal guinea pigs for raw vegan recipe testing.

Can you make a de-hydrated version to cut down on the S&H?

Loverly as always.

Hahahahahaha great post! who wouldn't want to glow in the dark?!?!!? Actually, embarassingly enough, once I used those whitening strips for teeth and I went to a party where there were black lights (how retro!) and this one drunk guy comes over and he's like "dude, why are your teeth glowing?!" It was so mortifying, I think I left right away!

Ummmm, I made this and it was DISGUSTING and I LIKE cherry limeades... Maybe it's because I juiced the limes in a juicer? It wasn't as pink as the picture, even though I added the right amount of cherries and grenadine. I have no idea, but it was really gross. Good thing I did a test run before serving it at baby shower. I'm sure your other food is great, but this was a disaster for me.

The Cooking Photographer said...

Hi Erika,

I wanted to get back to you because your comment is an important one! First, I’m so sorry your limeade was horrible. If your juicer is the type that grinds up the fruit as it juices, your limeade will be ruined. All the bitter pith will go into the juice and it will be foggy and gross.

I bought a fancy juicer at Costco a couple years ago only to have the same experience. Yuck! I use a cheap citrus juicer now that just squeezes out the juice.

If that wasn’t the problem please get back to me so we can figure it out.

Thanks,
Laura

Laura- yep, that was the problem. I used my Magic Bullet. Not recommended. :) Thanks for getting back to me.

Thanks Erika! I'm just glad you told me. It helps me a lot.
