Elves’ Favorite Dessert. Run Away!

Glancing through recipes for a winter photo assignment I spot something quite out of the ordinary. Fluff. What the heck is fluff? Isn’t that the stuff hidden in the back corner of salad bars old ladies eat?

So I make, style and shoot this fluff stuff, all the while sniffing my nose up at it. I do not eat fluff. No one eats fluff! In a hurry, I stuff strangely pale green fluff back into the Cool Whip container and get back to work.

After several more hours of shooting I start to crave something sweet. Peering into the fridge I sigh and gingerly take out the evil fluff container. I take a spoon and dip it into said crazy evil fluff.

It was there at that very moment something magical happened.

I liked it. Really, really liked it! Unfortunately, I "liked" it so well that I ate the entire container all by myself over the next several days.

So what do you think I did after eating an entire container of yummy pistachio fluff? That’s right. I made a whole new batch just for me.

Ah fluff, I love you. Wait a second... Does this make me an old lady?

Elves’ Favorite Dessert
Printer Version
1 tub Cool Whip (thawed)
1 small box pistachio pudding
1 small can crushed pineapple

Mix pineapple with it's juice and pistachio pudding powder together in a medium sized bowl. Fold in Cool Whip. Store fluff inside the Cool Whip container and chill before serving.

LOL..that's funny! The "green" fluff and the pink fluff are always around our tables for the holidays. I've seen it now for about 40 yrs! ha ha My grandmother HAD to have it!

A friend of mine introduced me to this dessert a couple of years ago (though he uses fruit cocktail, not crushed pineapple) and I *adore* it!

I'm dead set against making anything with cool whip, but for some reason, I don't mind instant pistachio pudding (a guilty pleasure). Anyway, in a moment of utter weakness, I've been known to make this recipe using freshly whipped cream (w/sugar and vanilla).

Oh, I have a friend who brings this to church dinners and she insists it is a "salad", and should be served as such - will move it from the dessert table to the savory food table. So funny.

Ho, ho, ho,

I would absolutely eat this, like on a Sunday afternoon on the couch watching movies! One question, though: do you prepare the pudding, or just stir the mix into the CoolWhip? That sure is a dumb question for a recipe with only three ingredients, isn't it!

That's not a dumb question at all. Just stir the pudding powder right into the undrained pineapple. You don't prep the pudding.

I find cool whip to be shockingly addictive. It's so NOT that bad for you that you feel compelled to eat multiple spoonfuls. Until the whole tub is gone. And then, well. It IS not that good for you. This looks delicious though! Love the instant pistachio pudding (she says ashamedly).

My grandma always makes this for family dinners. She calls it pistachio salad. It's so good! I'm a sucker for old church lady cool whip and jell-o salads!

I would love to make this but I'm afraid I would eat it all! Sounds good to me.

I love this! And unfortunately since I live in Mexico and can't get the Cool Whip and forgot to bring instant pudding back with me the last time I was home in the states...there will be no pistachio salad for me for quite some time. Sadness I tell you.

This is my daughter's favorite jello salad(we will now call it Fluff; much better)! We add mini marshmallows to it too:)
