HI Melissa,

That means your tortilla maker is too hot. Can you turn it down? If your's doesn't have a dial try unplugging it when your tortillas start getting too crispy.

I had the same problem. It took me awhile to figure it out too.

Thanks for your recipe and tips (mine always explode - but now I know how to fix that!).
I've been trying to perfect the tortilla maker for the past year and they're always hard & break easy...even before they turn brown or are totally cooked. Any suggestions? I really want to get good at them so we don't have to buy tortillas but they just never seem to work out. They always break when you roll them up....

I never knew that it was so easy to make tortillas. Even if I have to use a press and then cook them in a pan, I bet it'll be worth it. And with as much mexican food as my family eats....yaaa, it'll be worth it. thanks for posting this! :)

Homemade tortillas are the BEST! Yours are perfection ~ and the tortilla maker is a brilliant invention (hand-rolled flour tortillas always look like oddly shaped continents when I make them.) :p
